I am pleased to introduce myself as one of the Egyptian artists in the field of Art Installation. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Art Education, and I have just finished my Master’s degree in design. My Master’s thesis title is “Structural Design of Installation Art in Space among Contemporary Egyptian Artists”. This research was an analytical study of structural design of Installation Art in space among contemporary Egyptian artists.
I am one of the contemporary artists in installation. I like to achieve movement in my work, which happens through growth. Usually, I use living materials such as bacteria, fungus and algae for my installations in order to symbolize the breathing of life. As these materials grow fast and change both their colors and shapes quickly, in an exhibition context, this is, in my opinion, an ideal material to articulate my concept. Besides working with living material, I use the element of water, which is the basic precondition for all growth. In my installations, I sometimes use various kinds of colored water to produce another effect symbolizing the different environments and communities in which people live. There is no time without movement and no space without material. Change is a precondition for our life. We see that everything around us is in flux - nothing remains as it was. Space is therefore also a part of my work. It gives our material a chance to live and to occupy it. Space also includes air, another basic element with water, which contains oxygen. It is this that allows human beings to live. |
