Fio studied art during and after a career in the voluntary sector and as a parent and carer. She has been a teacher, counsellor, facilitator and diversity manager.
"To make artwork I call on my passion for expression and my experience of and interest in dis-location. Dis-location may be about disconnected realities, or in the built or natural environment. It may lead to building multi-media installations, making drawings directly onto walls or mixing natural and synthetic materials. "I connect my fascination for light and form and for materials with personal memories. I use contrasts of weight and detail: heavy and light, solid and delicate, shiny and matte. To capture these passions I mine a rich seam of autobiographical incidents relating to difference, to madness and death, and photograph quirky architectural and mechanical forms." |
