"Digital pictures inspired by nature's own artistic creations, built with a little help from simple mathematics and a computer".
Born in 1953 in Belgium, I grew up in the Congo where I held pen and brush ever since early childhood. That period left me with a liking for bright colour-combinations as found on the sparkling wings of butterflies and tropical birds or on other living jewels.
My current style appeared at the time I was studying engineering, between1973 and 1980. Back then I was using gouache in creating the original paintings. Neither abstract nor figurative, the partitioning in « cells » may have been inspired by the way Nature organizes colours and texture within the structure of its own creations. This style helps me to materialize the image that takes shape in my head. This is a slow process where colour gradients are measured out and contours are adjusted in order to create volumes.
The artist supplier Schleiper & Fils in Brussels has edited and sold several silkscreen print limited series of my work. However, despite this initial success, after my studies I postponed my painting in order to dedicate my time to a career as an engineer.
Since 2014 I have resumed my artistic activity, making use of the power of the mathematics acquired during my career as an engineer and of the precision of digital processes which modern times offers. The creative work resides in designing a mathematical model and integrating it into a computer program which I write for the purpose of creating the digital image. This process can take several weeks, sometimes a few months for a single creation
