​Textiles 2020 - The Show
City Lit
8-13 December 2020

Textiles2020 is a group of artists and makers who met on the City Lit Advanced Textiles course.  They create contemporary textiles that embrace a wide range of textile practice, from the rich traditions of stitch, fabric manipulation, appliqué, printing, and colour, to the use of recycled materials and found objects.

The group is exhibiting work on an open theme, with textile art telling personal stories of loss, childhood memories, historical narrative, subversive stitch, the natural world and abstract forms.

The exhibition will also be online from 8 December at www.textiles2020.com

The year 2020 will forever be synonymous with plague. A year when COVID-19 swept the planet and caused one of the biggest periods of lockdown and worldwide isolation we have ever seen. Whole swaths of the planetary population were instructed to stay at home, banned from meeting friends and family and unable to hug or touch those they love.

The Art Of Isolation Exhibition is inspired by the Tales From Isolation Book Project and is a chance to show work created during this unprecedented time, to share artistic thoughts, feelings and inspirations on the period of isolation and around this planetary shared experience.

Persona non grata, The Ascending Goddess

​Adeline Timis is a Visual Artist and Shaman.  Following a feminist path, she is using her own experiences with the world to show social, mental and physical states of the spirit portrayed in her artworks. While the physical body is silenced, censored, tortured, destroyed and disrespected in a hypocrite 21st century society, the ether body is gaining more knowledge, ascending towards a new Dimension. She sees herself as a reincarnated Goddess in a human body, deserted on Earth to lead others to their journey within. She creates with her soul and third eye visions, absorbing in the energy of the world to fuel her inspiration.

Persona non grata - The Ascending Goddess is an exhibition that aims to express the artist's journey breaking ancestral curse, fighting and healing mental health barriers with a holistic approach, redefining the human condition and following her true path through unconditional self love.

Adeline defines the divine feminine ( Goddess )  as a part of an esoteric holy trinity of a Witch, Priestess and Shaman and she depicts each side of herself in her paintings. She mostly paints from memories a version of who she was in past life or the transformation and challenges of her soul in this life. 

Why Persona non grata? The first part of the title was chosen by the artist owing to the fact that it means an unacceptable or unwelcome person. The Witch, The Priestess and The Shamans are “persona non grata” of the patriarchy. She is all of them embodied in one soul. 

Born in a small village in the Romanian mountains, the artist always felt out of place there. Her ideology and self expression were ahead of her time, because of this she had a hard time growing up in a place where people like her don’t belong. She took it upon herself to make sure her sacred journey is honoured so she moved to the United Kingdom to find herself and be able to create freely without the judgement of the community she lives in.

Her journey in the last 7 years in the UK has not been as easy as she imagined when she left the country that forsake her awakening spirit. As she was transitioning from a young scared girl to a divine feminine being, the veil of society fell off and she could finally see the pain that women endured for centuries at the hand of patriarchy. She felt the pain of all her ancestors, witches, shamans, priestesses and healers that were persecuted at the hands of lost mortal men.

Through her artworks and visions, she is now fighting to change the stigma surrounding the divine feminine and the acceptance of us. Through this exhibition she closely chose to portray the exoteric and religious ways that women were seen through the centuries and challenging the viewer to understand and accept the fact that patriarchy wiped the knowledge of the goddesses that created society long before any religion known to men appeared.

The layout of the exhibition is divided into two mental state settings. The first floor showcasing the formative years and her struggle with body-image issues and failed relationships that succumbed her self worth. The second floor, her transition to fully understand and accept herself for who she is truly meant to be, standing in power.

LOOP2020: Artists in Print
29 September - 11 October 2020

​LOOP is an informal co-operative of artists with a background in print. LOOP has presented some of the best in new printmaking through yearly exhibitions since 2005.

LOOP encourages creative freedom; artists show their individual work in their choice of technique, from the oldest print technology through to the most recent digital developments, offering a great diversity of imagery and technique.

LOOP2020 will show recent work by nationally and internationally exhibiting artists, some of whom have founded print workshops, alongside recent graduates from the Camberwell College of Art MA printmaking course.

We hope our 15th anniversary show will proceed normally, despite difficult conditions. We invite our friends to visit us, but please follow the safety guidelines in place during the exhibition.

Degrees of Freedom

Reality and its disorders
9-19 September 2020

Degrees of Freedom invited artists to respond to the new currents that have shaped their lives for a physical exhibition at the Espacio Gallery 9-19th September 2020.
  
In their response artists shared the mundane as well as transformational impact of the past few months on their lives.  Looking ahead and beyond, sometimes inside and sideways, the works in the exhibition bring together very different perspectives on that experience. 

Using strategies ranging from humour and playfulness to forensic attention to the body, the works examine states of minds, the new rituals for interaction, the heightened role of touch, and the dance of the body between danger and desire.

Finding Forever
@TBOART Solo Exhibition

For the first time, I have created a body of work that is not portrait led and so I am looking forward to showing you all the new work I have been creating for 'Finding Forever'. The project is partly inspired by the critically acclaimed and Grammy nominated album of the same name by rapper Common. As with all of my past projects which include 'Get Up, Stand Up' 2010, 'Streets' Disciples' 2011, and 'Roses That Grew From Concrete' 2019, 'Finding Forever' 2020 finds its thought provoking context in music but also in my personal life. Each painting serves as a visual representation of a song by Common (from his various albums) and of an event or person[s] in my life.

As always there will be raffle tickets and other merchandise available for purchase including art prints

​CONCEPTUAL BOREDOM - The Exhibition
11-23 August 2020

​Conceptual Boredom, is a photography project that explores our connection with our homes, our things, our food and our bored minds during the
Covid-19 outbreak. The initiative aims to raise money for NHS Charities Together, in order to support the health and well-being of front-line NHS staff that don’t get to be bored during the crisis.

Conceived and developed by the creative team Camila Gurgel and
​Ieva Paulina, the photographic series documents the boredom of life in lockdown.

In the images, Gurgel and Paulina have used everyday objects to create surreal scenarios and shapes. The pieces (surprisingly all shot on iPhone) are designed to be both highly relatable and abstract at the same time.

In the upcoming exhibition the public can expect to experience more than 60 photographic pieces as well as art installations and exclusive new work.

Half of the profits will also be donated to the NHS Charities Together to keep giving support to those saving our lives everyday.

And more good news. The fans of the project will have the chance to have a shot of their own as part of the exhibition. All you need to do is share your version of Conceptual Boredom on your Instagram page and tag @conceptualboredom on the caption. The most creative shot will be exhibited along side the collection.

The event will follow any social distancing rules applying at the moment of the exhibition, but please get in touch via DM on the @conceptualboredom Instagram page if you’d like to arrange a private viewing.

It’s one thing to present your art honestly to the world, it’s quite another to turn that gaze on yourself.  We live in the age of the ‘selfie,’ where reality can be pushed through endless filters until every hint of vulnerability is erased. In this show, all filters are removed as each artist presents an artwork that gives the viewer a glimpse of their authentic self.

Now in its 7th year the annual Espacio colour exhibition is always fascinating and always different. 

This year’s show, RGB, is a multi-disciplinary exhibition that brings together twelve gallery artists who have taken on the challenge of responding to this theme. A range of responses will be on show including abstraction, realism and figurative work in various media.

Recollection: Memories in Glass

Just Glass’ latest show focuses on memory and recollection in all its diverse forms — everything from personal reminiscences to nostalgia, from the science of memory to the commemoration of moments in history. Each piece in the show has been inspired by memories and created in glass — expect to see a stunning range of glass art, including decorative and functional pieces, sculptural glass and wall-hung artwork, using a wide variety of glass-making methods.  The show will feature work from internationally renowned glass-makers as well as from emerging artists.

​After extremely successful recent exhibitions in Hertford, Lyme Regis and Twickenham, we have chosen Espacio Gallery as our next venue. Just Glass are delighted to exhibit in such a vibrant venue.
 
As well as the main exhibition, Just Glass artists are also taking the opportunity to launch a gallery shop, featuring smaller decorative pieces that visitors can buy and immediately take away with them.

Just Glass was formed in 2003 and now comprises a group of  over 50 established and emerging glass artists.

Members include internationally renowned as well as emerging artists and their work ranges from tiny, intricate pieces to imposing, large-scale works in glass, from domestic vessels to abstract sculpture.

'SPLASH 2020' is a vibrant exhibition of work to be held at Espacio Gallery. Four artists will be taking part.

Delyth Bolt, Jenny Blanchard, Judith Whitehouse, and Linda Simmonds.

Jenny Blanchard makes work that searches the layers of physical memory, exposing and disclosing the past. Observations of historic remains also lead on to a more personal search. 

Delyth Bolt’s studies continue to respond to the figure, more recently using paper figures as a starting point.  Painting in layers without anticipating the outcome has created a sense of freedom and movement. 
 
Linda Simmonds’ practice explores the process of repeated mark making as a response to memory loss and the ability to recall.  Her work develops intuitively through paintings, prints and mixed media.

Judith Whitehouse’s study over the last twenty years has explored the philosophy and practice of geometry. Recent work has expanded boundaries of approach and use of medium. 

The exhibition runs from 7th - 19th January.  Open 11am - 6pm Tuesday to Saturday and Sunday 11am - 5pm.  Additionally there will be a late night opening on Thursday January 9th until 9pm.
