He studied at Chelsea College of Art, completed an MA at the Royal Academy Schools, and was recently awarded a Professional Doctorate in Fine Art from the University of East London. Record has exhibited widely, with recent notable solo shows including Layers of Silence at Espacio Gallery (2024) and Achilles and the Ghost of Patroclus at The Handbag Factory (2023). His work has featured in group exhibitions at the Orlando Museum of Art (2025), the Embassy of Brazil (2024), the Venice Architecture Biennale (2022), and other solo and group shows at Sotheby’s, the Royal Academy, Toni Heath Gallery, George Gallery and Proud Galleries. His paintings are held in public and private collections, including the Cottrell-Lovett Collection, New York, and the Orlando Museum of Art. Recent residencies include the Austevoll Art Symposium in Norway (2022). The Doors of the Regent Palace Hotel Silence, Light, and Transformation: Rupert Record’s New Paintings Reframe Masculinity Espacio Gallery London, 7–12 October 2025. London-based artist Dr Rupert Record (DProf) presents a powerful new body of work exploring silence, resilience, and transformation through layered abstraction. Combining autobiography, abstraction, and LGBTQ+ histories, Record’s paintings reimagine silence not as absence but as a transformative space of empathy, self-acceptance, and renewal. Drawing on his experiences of coming out as a young gay man in the 1980s and 1990s, Record translates memory into luminous, layered compositions. In works such as Figure in the Hotel Room 2 and The Doors to the Regent Palace Hotel, personal recollections become visual meditations and gestures of both vulnerability and strength. “The painting process, with its intuitive use of colour and material, no longer confines but reveals new possibilities for representing identity and liberation,” says Record. “This autobiographical journey has shaped my belief that masculinity can be both inclusive and empathetic.” Merging architectural motifs, layered colour, and traces of the body, Record’s paintings invite viewers into an intimate dialogue between silence and expression, memory and renewal. Each canvas becomes a space where LGBTQ+ identity is reclaimed and reframed, illuminating a vision of masculinity that is fluid, expansive, and deeply human. 👨🎨 Artist: Rupert Record 🌐 Website: rupertrecord.studio ✨ Admission is free and everyone is welcome! These reflections also touch on universal issues of mental health, identity, community, and resilience, making the exhibition both deeply personal and globally relevant. Artists are encouraged to share personal, social, or conceptual interpretations of what it means to feel safe or unsafe, and how this shapes lives, relationships, and environments. The exhibition seeks to raise awareness, foster empathy, and generate social impact through visual storytelling — featuring a diverse range of voices, from emerging to established artists. 🧠 “Creating safe spaces is not just about shelter, but about dignity, identity, and belonging.” 👩🎨 Organiser: Consortium for Street Children (CSC) 🔗 Website: streetchildren.org The CSC is a global network of 208 organisations across 111 countries, dedicated to creating sustainable change for street children. By placing children’s rights at the centre of everything, CSC empowers them as agents of change, while using research and advocacy to influence global policy. Street-connected children are among the most marginalised worldwide, facing stigma, violence, and exclusion from essential services such as education and healthcare. Many lack legal identity, leaving them unprotected and unsafe. Yet these children are not passive victims — they embody extraordinary resilience, creativity, and insight. This exhibition not only introduces CSC’s mission to a wider audience but also raises funds for their work, while providing artists with a meaningful platform to share their vision. 🌟 Admission is free and everyone is welcome! Come explore, connect, and celebrate art in the heart of Shoreditch — while supporting the mission of the Consortium for Street Children. ✨ |

The group creates alongside each other, exchanging ideas and techniques to progress their work. Their individual styles find common ground with a focus on beautiful, hand-built sculptural forms, using a variety of clays. The Spectrum of Life exhibition features the work of four members: Anthea Williams — @antheawilliamsart Anthea Williams studied Sculpture at the Royal College of Art, London. Her sculptural vessels reference the practice of drawing and explore the possibilities of making marks with and on clay. Using hand-built and wheel-thrown elements, Anthea constructs and manipulates the clay to produce ceramic artworks that are curious, exciting and, at times, functional. She also has a collection with Urn Studios, who work with artists to offer contemporary handmade memorial urns. Fin Culbert — @finmadethat Fin Culbert has been working with clay on and off throughout her life. She is fascinated by things that are old, rusting, decaying, and by the strangeness of saints and relics, objects unearthed from the ground, and the human desire to leave traces and testimony. She hand-builds her pieces, mostly using heavily grogged, tactile clay, combined with slips, oxides, and textural glazes. Ludivine Mirigay-Arts — @palameistudio Ludivine Mirigay-Arts is a handbuilder who embraces the intuitive nature of the technique. Drawing inspiration from shapes and patterns in nature, as well as the raw beauty of unrefined landscapes, she explores the tension between symmetry and organic forms in her series Artefacts, incorporating graphic elements and marks to add complexity to her vessels. Lindsay Miller — @nelliemillerpots Lindsay Miller originally trained in Theatre Design at Central Saint Martins and began working with clay three years ago, having collected mid-century ceramics for many years. Lindsay uses bold colours and design to create pieces that evoke joy and playfulness. Her practice combines hand-building techniques with pattern and mark-making, exploring how two-dimensional patterns work around three-dimensional forms. She is inspired by the patterns and colours of mid-century design and the rhythm and repetition found in the natural world. |
