Charles McLaren is a fine artist and arts education practitioner based in Slough, Berkshire.
A Graphic Designer by trade; Charles graduated from Jamaica School of Art circa 1976 and emigrated to the UK for a post graduate stint at Central St Martins.
Charles’s career began in the communications and advertising industry, working with a broad range of organisations such as Brent Health Education Office, Saatchi & Saatchi to the Home Office.
After 25 years of commercial design Charles broadened his creative sphere and began painting 10 years ago. His style is an eclectic mix of graphic sensibilities and contemporary abstract. Inspired by a visceral interpretation of the world – his work often reflects his vast collection of memories, travels, love of nature and colour.
"My paintings are an expression of ideas, shapes and emotions using mixed media. Many of my two dimensional pieces have a three dimensional sense of perspective.
I have developed a passion for using and manipulating the chemistry of materials to create distinctive textures within the work; giving my paintings a tactile quality which often compels people to want to touch the artwork.
The primary objective behind my work is for the viewer to interpret the painting as he or she feels -rather than necessarily implying my meaning and hopefully stimulate conversation."
Charles first foray of exhibiting and selling his work started at Bayswater Art Exhibition, which enabled him to sell his work internationally, touching far reaching part of the globe from Russia, Spain and the US.
