Born June 8th, 1975 Richard Harris is a self-taught artist from Essex, England.
After attending art school for only 6 months, Richard Harris opted to leave formal education and pursue a career in the civil service. He has continued to paint out of his studio in Essex and his work has been exhibited in various group shows in London. He is currently a member of an artist run gallery in Bethnal Green, London.
Richard Harris takes you on a journey through the ways in which forces of abstraction are constantly changing, being enriched by his energetic brush strokes and vivid colours.
His paintings begin with no set concept and evolve into mark making, drips and splatters. The cumulative effect of his multicoloured palette is not only one of pictorial balance but a daring boldness bursting out from the canvas.
His paintings completely captivate you! He brings out a sense of freedom through his mark making and provokes a cathartic release in the viewers who appreciate his works as a window into their emotions.
Taking inspiration from the early ‘New York School’ painters, music and life experiences – Richard Harris is very much an exponent of the process-based abstract expressionism.
“My work explores the limits of how colour and organic form can be used as a vehicle of visual emotional experiences”.
