My practice is studio based and my work is abstract, non representational and free from reference. By being abstract it allows individual expression and more direct and positive thinking in form and colour. My work does not use symbols or convey any message, but is the visual presentation of ideas that evolve. I see myself as a physically active artist constantly in the process of working out ideas in paint.
Issues of shape, balance and weight are important to me and it is the relationship between these elements, the contrasting of space, shape and colour, and the use of balance and counter balance that form my pictorial construction. It is highlighting these elements that is the content of my painting. Structure, space, depth, proportion and colour are used to describe different relationships within the paintings.
I believe it is important each time when looking at a painting to see something going on, something new, something different.
