Marianne is a fine artist who paints deeply textured, abstract works. A painter since her teens, each piece is an outpouring onto canvas of her inner life.
She says that she has a compulsion to paint. Her process of layering, and scratching away, oils means that the paint seemingly tears out of the canvas, to give the final picture a feeling of movement, depth and intensity. She uses layering and moulding to create height, and furious scratching with a pallet knife to keep the paintings moving, active, and interesting.
Her works represent passionate evolution and exploration, and often depict holes in some form. Whilst many of her early oil paintings are sketchy, and disordered with the layers mingling together on the canvas, in more recent years she has created structured monochrome paintings with deliberate empty spaces on the canvas. They display a juxtaposition between the expressive, and extremely thick, oil paint with neat clean geometric forms. The viewer is invited to decide what they represent for themselves.
She lives in South Tottenham, London.
