Picture
My recent work is inspired by the trees in and around North London, they are the lungs of our city – with all the noise of life their presence is like a song. I paint in oils on canvas or use acrylic paint on plywood which I carve to create depth and texture. Through abstract forms and colour I want to capture a sense of wonder in the midst of this urban neighbourhood. When I walk around my local streets I notice hidden beauty in unexpected places. I am struck by the colour of chimneys and rooftops in the sunlight. I want  my work to reflect  the poetic resonance of objects and light, the quiet magnificence of the trees.

I recently visited New York City and discovered their city parks, sketching the shapes and colours of the city scape. On returning to my studio I used these sketches as the inspiration for a series of city-scapes. Away from the city I make an annual visit to the Scottish Isle of Iona, where the sea and sky meet blue on blue.

I graduated from Central St Martin’s University of the Arts London, in 2006, and post-graduate studies at the Art Academy, London Bridge 2016/17.

I have exhibited in solo and group shows and have delivered art workshops in Bethlehem, South Africa and Brazil, making my own work around these experiences.
